What Is Animate?

Animate is an interdenominational, intergenerational workshop in worship and the arts for high school students and their mentors. You can attend as an individual, with a friend, or with a team from your congregation or school. At Animate, students will hone leadership skills, adults will sharpen their mentoring tools, and everybody works together to practice and reflect on the intersection between worship, arts, and justice.

We hosted Animate for the first time in 2014 with a select group of teams, and we had 170 participants. If you missed out, watch the videos below for a glimpse of Animate. WHO CAN ATTEND?

‐ Any student interested in worship and the arts, so long as they have completed 8th through 12th grade at the time of Animate.
‐ Any team of students and adults from a church or school. Local church and school policies will govern the ratio of students to adults as well as gender and age.

WHAT WILL WE DO?

‐ Immerse ourselves in a wide range of worship practices including praying, singing, speaking, responding, and story-telling.
‐ Engage a variety of artistic expression including visual art, music, theatre, preaching, liturgical dance, and writing.
‐ Explore the connection between worship and justice through service.
‐ Form deep relationships with God and God’s people.
‐ Plummet the depths of worship theology.
‐ Students will reflect on experiences in small groups led by Samford students.
‐ Adults will reflect on the Animate process in small groups led by a trained Animate facilitator.

ANIMATE COST //
- Includes housing, meals, Animate t-shirt, artistic supplies, and all Animate activities.
- Does not include travel to Birmingham or the Samford University Campus.
- Transportation will be provided to individuals for off-campus service projects or events.
- Unless prior arrangements have been made, each team will be responsible for their own transportation
- Individual registrations will be paired with same-gender roommates of similar age.  Adults cannot room with students.
- Individuals who request a single room will be billed an additional $80 for the week

ANIMATE REGISTRATION //

A $75 deposit is required for each participant at the time of initial registration.  
- Initial registration and deposit must be made online.
- Deposits will be refunded through May 1, 2015.  After May 1, 2015, deposits are non-refundable.
- The full registration packet with final check payment is to be completed, submitted by mail along with a check for the remaining balance, and postmarked by Monday, June 1, 2015.
